Black moms and babies are at greater risk of death than any other race due to systemic racism and toxic stress. Black women are 4 times more likely to die of pregnancy related complications than white women, and Black babies are 2-3 times more likely to die before celebrating their first birthday than white babies.
Doula support has been shown to reduce negative birth outcomes, and increase overall satisfaction with the birthing experience. While doula support is not the solution to the problem, it can help.
Providing doula support to Black/African American families at no cost is just one way we are able to help reduce stress.
The teen pregnancy rate in California is approximately 12.4%. Research indicates that 30 percent of teen girls who have dropped out of high school cite pregnancy or parenthood as a key reason. Rates are even higher for African American and Latino girls—38 percent and 36 percent respectively.
There are over 600,000 children in the California foster care system, and teens in foster care are twice as likely to become pregnant. 49% of babies born to mothers in foster care enter into the foster care system by their second birthday.
One of our goals is to help our pregnant and parenting teens avoid having their babies removed from their care. Through our offerings we will achieve our goal of providing support to help heal generational trauma and transform families that will raise babies that become physically and emotionally healthy adults.
The support we offer includes prenatal and postpartum doula support, lactation support, support groups, perinatal mood disorder screenings and referrals, birth spacing/contraceptive education and other supportive services to assist participants in completing high school and post secondary education.
We believe by providing comprehensive support to pregnant and parenting teens we can lower rates of chronic absenteeism, drop-out, and stop the intergenerational cycle of foster care.

Beauty for Ashes-
"To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified."
Isaiah 61:3 (KJV)
